– Regarding former WWE Diva Katie Lea Burchill’s tryout match for TNA Wrestling last week, one observer dubbed her performance as “okay” and “nothing spectacular.” Meanwhile, talk amongst others within the company was more positive.

WrestlingInc.com is reporting that former WWE Diva Katie Lea Burchill worked a dark match prior to Monday’s TNA iMPACT! taping. Wrestling under the name Kat Larue, Burchill lost her tryout match to TNA Knockout Madison Rayne.

TNA’s Jeremy Borash posted the following on Twitter: “The fmr Katie Lea Burchill did great in her TNA dark match tonight. Future KO?”

Katie Lea Burchill worked for World Wrestling Entertainment from February 11, 2008 until her subsequent release on April 22, 2010.

Former WWE Diva Katie Lea Burchill worked a dark match prior to tonight’s iMPACT! taping from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Working under the name Kat Larue, the former WWE performer lost to Madison Rayne. Along with six other wrestlers, she was released from her WWE contract on April 22, 2010. Her ninety no-compete clause had recently expired.

Seven wrestlers released by World Wrestling Entertainment on April 22, 2010 are now free to join TNA Wrestling (or any wrestling promotion for that matter) as their respective 90-day no-compete clauses have expired. Among those let go that fateful day were Mickie James, Shelton Benjamin, Katie Lea Burchill, Jimmy Wang Yang, Slam Master J, Kung Fu Naki and Mike Knox.

The contractual clause was put in place to prohibit wrestlers from immediately competing with nationally televised promotions following their release.

Katie Lea Burchill was a perfect example of misused divas. This diva had good skills and she was two times women’s champion at OVW.

She had a story line with Paul Burchill as her brother when she joined WWE. She spent most of her time at ECW where she had several feuds and matches, including tag team contests and women’s title matches against Mickie James. However, she came up short to capturing the championship.

After this, she started jobbing to the Bella twins.

Later, she moved to RAW just to continue jobbing on this show, in addition to other jobbing duties in WWE Superstars.

Many people were sad to hear that she has been released. But lets face it, prior to her release she didn’t have any legit storyline, and she seemed to be a normal diva who loses a lot and lacks any character.

I’m sure many people already forgot about her, and she didn’t leave any space because she hasn’t been used right in her last months. The reason which made her release a bit unsurprising.

Former WWE stars Carlito and Katie Lea Burchill were pulled from next month’s WWC Anniversario weekend events.

Carlito was pulled due to the circumstance of his WWE release. Since Carlito vs. Ricky Banderas was expected to be a top draw for the card, there’s been talk of WWC attempting to book Savio Vega from rival IWA Puerto Rico and having Vega vs. Primo. There’s also been talk of a IWA Invasion angle.

Burchill hasn’t been able to get a new working visa for the United States since leaving WWE, so she will be replaced by TNA Knockout ODB.

WWE’s decision to cut Katie Lea cut was something not known well in advance as the creative team had earlier in the week decided to move her to SmackDown!, before getting the word that she wasn’t going to be part of the draft due to her termination from the company.

Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis spoke to Maria-Kanellis.org yesterday about Mickie James and Katie Lea Burchill being let go from the company this week.

As for Katie Lea Burchill, Maria called her a “tremendous asset” to the Women’s division. “It seems to me, for some reason, they seem to fire the wrong person. That’s really bad,” Maria said. “I cannot believe they fired her.”
